The big news broke on Thursday morning that WWE will still be going ahead with the plans for the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia. WWE issued a statement in their earnings report for Q3, saying that they have “decided to uphold its contractual obligations to the General Sports Authority and stage the event”.
With the event staying in Saudi Arabia, questions now shift into the status of John Cena, who is scheduled to participate in the WWE World Cup tournament.
A report a few days ago from Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports suggested that Cena and Daniel Bryan have both refused to work the event if it stays in Saudi Arabia.
In a new report, Fox says that Cena is still standing his ground on the situation and is refusing to appear at Crown Jewel.
Fox says that he isn’t sure about Bryan’s status at the moment. He says that WWE attempted to work it out with both Cena and Bryan over the past few days. It is unclear at the moment if Bryan has changed his mind or not.
During a media call, Vince McMahon refused to answer any questions about the decision to move forward with the event. He said “we’re not going to talk a lot about that it’s a very sensitive subject. I think our statement says all we’re going to say about that today.”
It will be interesting to see what happens on RAW next week and if WWE still plugs Cena for the tournament. We will let you know if we hear anything more about the event.
