This week’s episode of Monday Night RAW saw Bobby Lashley face off against Kevin Owens. Lio Rush was on the mic throughout the match, hyping up Lashley. This match was designed to turn Lashley heel, with the post-match beating of Owens being the thing that solidified the turn.
We have some news to pass your way about Lashley’s heel turn. This comes via Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here).
According to Meltzer, the decision to turn Bobby was made only hours before RAW. WWE apparently had a long discussion about if Lashley would be better served as a heel or babyface right now.
The decision was ultimately made because WWE needs heels right now. This is especially the case with WWE losing Owens due to his recent knee surgery. Things worked out perfectly for the turn, with WWE needing to write Owens off TV anyways.
Another interesting note was that Lio Rush was reportedly being fed lines by Vince McMahon for the segment. One person has told Meltzer that Rush was actually fed every single line from Vince during the segment.
Our Take
If true, this seems like great news for both Lashley and Rush that Vince is taking a strong interest. I could see Lashley as one of the top heels on RAW over the next several months. The addition of Rush was much needed for Lashley in my opinion. They have worked well together so far.
