The Hell in a Cell PPV event has officially come and gone. The main event between Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns ended in a no-contest. This came after Brock Lesnar returned and attacked both Braun and Roman. So what is the future of the Universal Championship after Hell in a Cell? Let’s speculate a little bit here.
It seems pretty obvious to me that WWE is setting us up for a big triple threat match at some point for the Universal Championship. That would be Braun vs Roman vs Brock. The bigger question is when will this match take place?
The main rumor going around was that Brock was going to face Daniel Cormier for the UFC Heavyweight Championship at some point over the next few months. Brock has been getting tested by USADA (US Anti-Doping Agency) over the past several weeks. As of writing this, the fight between Cormier and Lesnar hasn’t been announced by the UFC.
We know that the triple threat match between Roman, Brock, and Braun won’t be taking place at the WWE Super Show-Down. It has already been confirmed that we are getting a match between the Shield (Roman, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose) and the Dogs of War (Braun, Dolph Ziggler, and Drew McIntyre) at the event. I also don’t think that it will take place at Survivor Series since my guess is that WWE will be doing Champion vs Champion matches like last year.
So what is WWE doing? My guess is that this match won’t happen for a few months. I feel like Brock wouldn’t want to risk his fight with Cormier (and millions of dollars) by getting hurt. My speculation is that WWE used Brock to get themselves out of a corner. This finish was so both Braun and Roman didn’t need to take a loss in this match. It felt too early to take the belt off Reigns and I am sure that they didn’t want Strowman failing his cash-in without any shenanigans. As a result, I think Vince McMahon used Brock to get himself out of the match without having either guy take a pinfall loss.
My guess is WWE will save that triple threat for the Royal Rumble or something over the next several months. I don’t see Brock wrestling a full match before his Cormier fight. As a result, I think WWE will just continue the Reigns-Braun feud for the Universal Title until Lesnar jumps into the mix in a few months. I could be wrong, but that is my gut feeling right now about where this is all heading.
