AJ Styles was recently interviewed by ESPN. This was in order to promote his upcoming WWE Championship match at Hell in a Cell against Samoa Joe. During the interview, Styles spoke on a wide variety of topics about his pro-wrestling career.
Styles shared an interesting tidbit during the interview about almost having his name changed by WWE when he first signed.
Triple H spoke to AJ about possibly making a name change, which Styles was okay with. Here is what he said:
“When Triple H and I were talking, he said, ‘I don’t know if we’ll be able to keep your name.’ I said, ‘That’s fine, I’ll be any name you want me to be called, except I do have this huge AJ tattoo on my side so that might be a problem”
Styles also spoke about WWE’s decision to not change his or Samoa Joe’s names:
“I think it worked out for the best because we weren’t taken and being changed into something else. We were the same characters that they saw from different companies and that they were familiar with and people were already invested in. I think that was a good move by WWE.”
I think most people would agree that we are happy that Styles was able to keep his name in WWE and it has worked out just fine.
Speaking of Styles, he is on a really impressive PPV streak right now. You can read more about that here.
