One of the biggest surprises of Extreme Rules was that the match between Bobby Lashley and Roman Reigns didn’t end up being the main event. The match was the rumored favorite to go on last all week. Instead, the Iron Man match between Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler ended up being the main event.
So why didn’t Lashley vs Reigns go on last?
Here is what Dave Meltzer said on the Wrestling Observer Forum about why Lashley vs Reigns didn’t main event (h/t to WrestlingNews.co)
“I was told midweek it was the main event and then told it was changed the day of the show for reasons having to do with fear of the crowd crapping on it.”
This goes along with the report from PWInsider that said WWE changed their minds on the day of Extreme Rules. The Iron Man match was originally scheduled to open the show and Reigns vs Lashley was supposed to go on last. WWE ended up switching up the card in the afternoon before the event started.
The main event of Extreme Rules ended up getting crapped on by fans. The crowd started counting down the Iron Man clock at random times and it was a noticeable distraction from the match. After the event, the crowd was one of the biggest topics of conversation.
Do you think WWE made the right decision?
On a related note, here is what Dolph Ziggler told Seth Rollins in the ring at Extreme Rules about the crowd.
WWE should stop catering to those entitled asshole smark fans !
