Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa are currently scheduled for a match against one another at NXT Takeover: Chicago II. According to recent spoilers, they will be facing off in a street fight at the event.
It turns out that this wasn’t the original plan for the match.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), he was told a few weeks ago that Gargano and Ciampa were originally supposed to face off in a Last Man Standing match.
With AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura now being a Last Man Standing match at Money in the Bank, Gargano and Ciampa’s match was changed to a street fight.
This would make sense considering that some fans were disappointed with reading the news of the street fight for this feud. It seems as if a Last Man Standing match would have been better suited for the feud but NXT’s hands were tied.
Speaking of scrapped plans, check out what Hornswoggle was originally supposed to do at the Greatest Royal Rumble here.
