AJ Styles successfully retained his WWE Championship at Clash of Champions against Jinder Mahal. On ‘Talking Smack’, AJ said that he is finished with Jinder and will be moving on to something new.
Let’s speculate on who will be AJ’s next challenger for the WWE Championship.
Note: Let me start off by saying that I think that Shinsuke Nakamura is going to win the Royal Rumble, which will lead to Styles vs Nakamura at Wrestlemania 34. As a result, I don’t think that Nakamura will be the next challenger for AJ’s title. We are going to need a new feud for AJ at the Royal Rumble.Here are some potential opponents:
1) Sami Zayn
- We have already seen Kevin Owens vs Styles a lot, so how about a feud between Sami Zayn & AJ Styles? Sami is currently involved in the major storyline with Shane McMahon & Daniel Bryan so this one is up in the air. AJ vs Sami sounds like an awesome WWE Title match for the Rumble though. As a big fan of both guys, the match would likely be incredible.
2) Randy Orton
- We have seen Orton vs Styles before on Smackdown Live but I think that this could be a solid feud for the Rumble. You could have Orton turn heel to set this one up. Orton vs Styles could be a nice little feud for the next several weeks.

Are there any other options? Nakamura is possible but like I said, I see them saving that match for Wrestlemania. Owens vs Styles has been done to death. Bobby Roode seems like he is sticking around the U.S Title scene for the time being. I really only see it as Orton or Zayn unless WWE brings in someone new to Smackdown.
