Pete Dunne Responds To Fans Who Say: “WWE Is Trying To Kill The Independents”

There is no question that WWE has signed a lot of talent from the independent wrestling scene over the past few years. As a result, you will sometimes hear a wrestling fan say that WWE is trying to kill the independent scene by signing all of the talent.

Pete Dunne was recently interviewed by Digital Spy where he spoke on a wide variety of topics. One of the topics was the notion that WWE is killing independent wrestling.

Here is what Dunne had to say:

“It’s infuriating for people to claim that… look at it: you’ve got girls from the Mae Young Classic who are still doing independents, you’ve got a WWE title that can be seen on independent shows, there’s multiple WWE talents on these UK independent shows. To hear things like, ‘WWE is trying to kill the independents’ or whatever, that’s the opposite of what seems to be happening, so I think those comments are completely absurd.”

Dunne was also asked if he would like to see more collaboration between independents and the WWE Network:

“100%. You see people on Twitter talking about maybe Progress or ICW ending up on the Network, and I know nothing about it, but if it was to happen I think that’s an amazing step forward. When I started wrestling, WWE was a light at the end of the tunnel that no-one thought they could ever get to. Especially being British, only one or two people ever got there. For these doors to keep opening up, it’s a way for talent to get better much faster. “They know if they work hard enough and they get their name out there they can get on a show like Progress or ICW, which opens doors with their relationship with WWE. Then from there you maybe get into the UK brand, then NXT and finally the main roster. There’s a pathway being created that we didn’t have before.”
