We get a video package of Vince McMahon giving the keys to the Smackdown kingdom to Kevin Owens. They are making it a point to show Stephanie McMahon coming to the aide of her father. I wonder if we are going to get Stephanie on Tuesday nights for a while. Angry Uncle Shane is out first tonight and he’s literally always dressed as the coolest dude in the arena. Shane McMahon is so good at relaying emotions in a promo, guys in the back should take notes. That’s a strong promo that showed a ton of emotion and bad blood. Kudos to WWE also for not having Kevin Owens interrupt that promo.
Who wants to walk with Aiden English? Aiden English is becoming a very solid lower mid card heel for the Smackdown roster. We get Orton back and interesting that they said “legendary” while he was walking to the ring. English is way more athletic than I thought, that back flip counter was impressive. Aiden English is really impressing me in this match and kudos to WWE for giving English some time with a guy like Orton. Orton wins with the RKO out of nowhere and Saxton with an awful “singing the blues” joke. Corey Graves is going to be a voice of the next generation his breaking down that RKO was great. Rusev Machka! Rusev says he’s going to rip Orton’s teeth out of his mouth and a match has begun. Rusev kicks Orton in the mouth after English interference and Rusev celebrates like he just won a gold medal at the Olympics. The positive to this is we will be moving passed this after Hell in a Cell.
Jinder Mahal kicking off the 8:30 segment and as I said last week that’s not good for the champion. When you aren’t at the top of an hour, opening or closing a show and getting one segment it’s a bad look. I don’t understand this angle and I don’t understand what Mahal is suppose to be getting over. We see Nakamura’s face a lot with bad jokes. Mahal says “you people” five times in that promo. This is bad ladies and gentleman as bad as it gets. Nakamura gets a pre taped backstage and cuts a straight to the point promo. I was someone who was ok with the Mahal experiment, and it hasn’t completely failed but he’s failed to improve on the microphone. He looks great and is presented well and hell he’s even gotten better in the ring. His promo’s are atrocious however and it’s time to end the experiment at Hell in a Cell.
AJ Styles open challenge is up next and AJ Styles feels like the real champion on Smackdown Live. It’ll never get old hearing an entire arena chant AJ Styles that guys has earned it. Styles puts over Vince’s credentials and Shane’s toughness and says KO won’t make it out. I love how AJ every week finds a way for the crowd to chant “A-J- Styles” with him. I’m not sure how everyone else feels but i’m digging Corbin’s new theme. Kudos to WWE for continuing to do formal introductions for title matches. Corbin attacks Styles before the match beings and Dillinger shows up and beats down Corbin to a loud “ten” chant. Corbin doing a great job of selling the leg injury and Styles is all over Corbin and makes Corbin tap to the calf crusher although the match never started. Ja’Von gets his wish and i’m sure many others do as well as we appear to be heading towards a US Title Triple Threat.
Charlotte out to thank everyone and is interrupted by Natalya with those damn cat ears again. Oh i’m all in on Natalya and her “celebration of women” and drops a “Mae Young Classic” reference. Charlotte challenges her for the title and of course this brings out Becky Lynch. You know because the Smackdown Live women’s division can’t ever have a one on one match for the women’s title or contendership. Out comes the entire division and we are getting the same number one contenders match that we got like last month. I want to give some kudos to Natty for the emotion and acting she did in this segment good stuff from her.
Hype Bros getting a shot at the champions and you have to wonder if this is the night the Hype Bros ends. Big E just went full Booty O’s spring break with a group of girls in the front row. Usos are on commentary and Saxton is trying to fit in ugh. Mojo is a big dude he’s making Big E look like Lil E. During the break we see Zack Ryder get some offense in, instead of you know being the baby face in peril. I’m so ready to see a Ryder heel turn and actually a team with Ziggler could be interesting. I absolutely love the trust fall that Kofi Kingston does. New Day gets the win after a decent little match with the Hype Bros.
Kevin Owens looks like his mom dressed him to go into the principal’s office to apologize. Kevin Owens is so fantastic when it comes to promos and emotion in promo’s. A good night of promos for Smackdown tonight overall. Backstage Mojo and Ryder agree to do something drastic to make a change and stop losing.
Man Ziggler actually looked really good doing the Game entrance. Now he does the HBK entrance and it’s not as good as the HHH one. The Degeneration X entrance was ok and I will continue to say at least we are getting some passion behind the promo.
We come back from commercial for the main event with Becky and Tamina already in the ring and Naomi is out next. Naomi was having to hold that head piece on the whole time looks like it almost fell off. If it were me I’d have Charlotte win this match and take the title off Natalya at Hell in a Cell. We come back to what appears to be a one on one match with Charlotte and Tamina from commercial break. What the hell is going on with Naomi’s eye makeup? Saxton with great comments like “The Queen Roars”. Cool spot from Charlotte with the moonsault to both Naomi and Tamina. Lana gets involved and Charlotte grabs the win after a kick to the face of Tamina. We will now get Charlotte and Natalya in which may be the best Smackdown women’s match yet.
