The Mae Young Classic is officially in the books. Kairi Sane won the inaugural tournament, defeating Shayna Baszler in a hard-fought match in the finals. The event was a success, with multiple new female stars getting showcased to the WWE Universe.
WWE reportedly went away from what they originally had planned for the Mae Young Classic finals. Here is the latest buzz on what those plans actually were.
Mae Young Classic Rumors
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), Kairi Sane vs Shayna Baszler was not the original plan for the Mae Young Classic final match.
Before the tournament began, the final match was apparently planned to be Kairi Sane vs Toni Storm. This didn’t happen and we saw Storm and Sane face off in the semi-finals instead.
Sane vs Storm was switched to a semi-final match after WWE made the decision to go with Baszler and the Four Horsewomen angle as a theme for the tournament.
This also tells us that WWE is very high on Toni Storm. Should be interesting to see what happens with her over the next few months.
It was announced by Triple H after the match that Sane would be getting a NXT Women’s Title shot at the next Takeover event. Here are the latest rumors that are circulating about that match.

I wish Storm would’ve won. I think she’s really good. I also really liked Johnny G’s wife. Kairi was a good wrestler also but my fave was Toni for sure!!
