Plans For The Vacant NXT Women’s Championship

News broke last week that Asuka had broken her collarbone in her match against Ember Moon at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III. As a result, it was announced by WWE that Asuka would be forced to vacate the NXT Women’s Championship.

Asuka will (more than likely) be joining the WWE main roster when she returns from injury and we need to figure out who the new NXT Women’s Champion is going to be.

Vacant NXT Women’s Championship Rumors

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here), WWE is currently discussing having the winner of the Mae Young Classic tournament being crowned as the new Women’s Champion.

WWE has created new Championships for the winners of their previous tournaments. The WWE Cruiserweight Title was awarded to TJ Perkins after winning the Cruiserweight Classic. Tyler Bate also won the WWE United Kingdom Championship after winning the WWE UK Championship Tournament. It would make sense for the Mae Young Classic to feature a title as the winning prize.

The finals of the Tournament will be held in Las Vegas after Smackdown Live on September 12th. (For those in the Vegas area, you can buy tickets here from our partners at SeatGeek)

Spoilers for the tournament can be found here if you are curious. Also, we have some news on when Asuka could be making her main roster debut and which brand it will be for.
