Why Rusev Lost Quickly To Randy Orton At Summerslam

There have been a lot of rumors circulating about Rusev over the past few days. It began with Rusev being defeated by Randy Orton at Summerslam in very quick fashion. After a pre-match assault from Rusev, Orton hit an RKO (almost) as soon as the bell rang to win the match.

Some fans have been upset on social media saying that Rusev deserves better and that he was buried at Summerslam. Here are the latest rumors on why he was defeated so quickly.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscribe here), Rusev’s loss at Summerslam was not a burial but WWE’s way to continue building the storyline between Rusev and Orton.

The idea is that Rusev will argue that the loss was a fluke since all it took was an RKO. This will continue the storyline and they will likely face off again soon.

Meltzer also says that the decision was made to give Orton a big win since he is coming off some poorly received matches with Bray Wyatt and Jinder Mahal. The decision was apparently more about building Orton back up rather than anything against Rusev.

Both Rusev and Orton were not used on Smackdown Live this week so it is likely that we see some more development next week.  Also, for those wondering, Lana denied rumors that her and Rusev asked for their releases from WWE.
