Potential Reason Why Bayley Defeated Sasha Banks

Bayley defeated Sasha Banks on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW. As a result, she will be facing Alexa Bliss at Summerslam for the RAW Women’s Championship.

This result was a bit of a surprise for fans considering Sasha was the heavy favorite heading into the match. It almost seemed like a guarantee that we would be seeing Bliss vs Banks in a rematch from ‘Great Balls of Fire’ (where Sasha won via count out).

So why did Bayley win and why are we seeing another Bayley vs Alexa match? Here is the potential reason why.

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Radio (subscribe here) were speaking about Bayley and her entrance this week on RAW. Alvarez mentioned that her entrance reaction is night and day different from several months ago when the fans were going crazy for her. Alvarez and Meltzer attribute this change to the horrendous booking of Bayley since Wrestlemania 33.

Meltzer says that WWE is now trying to rehab the booking of Bayley and the damage that they have done over the past few months. Giving Bayley the win against Sasha and a title shot at Summerslam seems like WWE’s way to try and build Bayley back up.

This seems logical. It is hard to deny the awful booking of Bayley over the past few months and instead of keeping her on the back-burner it seems like the company has realized their mistakes. It will still take some time, but WWE can slowly build back the credibility of Bayley that they randomly decided to throw away since Wrestlemania.
