RawView: Monday Night Edition (RAW Review: July 17, 2017)

1) We start Raw with our cool older brother Dean Ambrose and a dented chair calling out the Miz and the Miztourage. For what it’s worth I don’t think Ambrose has fallen as much as other people have. Dean drops some real world and Christmas movie jokes that the MIz starred in and we are interrupted by cool Uncle Seth. Rollins tells Amrose he seems a bit confused and all over the place… isn’t that the gimmick? As I said last week I HOPE this leads to an Ambrose and Rollins feud. Historical moment here as Seth Rollins finally apologizes for turning his back on the shield. Miz interrupts the two of them possibly reforming a fraction of the shield. Miz and the Miztourage surround the ring with chairs and look to attack AmbRollins. Big time beat down with chairs by the Miztourage and it ends with a Skull Crushing Finale on Rollins onto a chair. Great opening segment that helps solidify the Miztourage as a force on Raw. The Miz and the MIztourage leave the building ….. or so we think….

2) Bayley and Alexa is up next and during Bayley’s entrance she reminds us all why everyone believed she could be the biggest baby face women’s wrestler of all time. Bayley shows a bit of fire and passion to open the match and we are already interrupted by the woman of the WWE who isn’t like most girls. Pretty physical match here with Alexa and Bayley and of course we have Nia Jax getting involved the match. Sasha Banks then comes out to even the odds and takes Nia Jax out of the equation. Bayley hits the Bayley to Belly and picks up the win as Michael Cole tells us she has to be in the conversation for the title that she just lost two months ago.

3) A rare Monday night Brian Kendrick appearance and he’s accompanied by Drew Gulak as they go to take on Mustafa Ali and Jack Gallagher. As I am typing this I realize that the ropes aren’t purple so therefore I will deviate from making the cruiserweights being different with purple font. Ali is a very fun cruiserweight and is the guy of the four that really popped off the screen for me. Speaking of he hits the inverted 450 splash for the win on Brian Kendrick. Decent generic cruiserweight tag match.

4) Enzo gets to kick us off at the nine o’clock hour. He cuts a promo somewhere between Enzo Amore and a scientist. Enzo puts over Big Cass being seven-foot tall which I guess is Big Cass’s whole gimmick now right? Cass comes out and cuts a very stiff promo. Enzo does a cool thing and grabs a kid in an Enzo wig in the audience as he finishes his promo against Cass. This brings out the Big Show to take on Big Cass. We get a big time fight between Big Cass and Big Show as they brawl in the entrance way. Big Cass gets the upperhand in the ring and because putting fists to face on Big Show even bloodying him.

5) Before we get Elias Sampson and Finn Balor in a match we have Angle setting up a match with Ambrose/Rollins vs. The Miztourage next week. Sampson gets really good heat before the match with Balor. The crowd chants LOUDLY “we want balor” if they keep playing this right they could have Daniel Bryan situation all over again. These two have very good chemistry in the ring and if it had some story behind it or reason for this match it would be considered an extremely good match. We get Sampson who plays Jeff Jarrett’s greatest hit here in Nashville tonight with a guitar smash over the head of Balor. After the match Wyatt comes on the screen and cuts a promo against Balor to setup the feud we thought we were going to get two months ago. However remember Wyatts promo post fatal five-way he declared to take out each of the participants in route to Lesner. He has defeated Rollins and now onto Balor.

6) Before our next match with Tozawa and Davari we get an announcement from Angle that Bayley and Banks will wrestle next week to determine the number one contender. We also get a pretty good promo from the Revival explaining why they attacked the Hardys. I must say Raw is starting to find a very good rhythm and are now announcing the big hits the next week the week prior kudos to WWE. I love Davari working on a body part and these two move really well in the ring with each other very good chemistry. The referee stops the match due to the arm injury to Tozawa when Titus O’Neil asks for the match to be stopped. This is too soon for there to be dissention between these two in my opinion.

7) Kurt Angle is making his way to the ring to make his major announcement and cuts a promo saying his family is 100% behind him. We are going with the illegitimate child angle here and he keeps drawing it out. Jason Jordan is announced as the illegitimate son of Kurt Angle and Angle plays up the faux tears very well. Jason Jordan is now on Raw and to be honest Raw needed another mid card baby face.

8)Nashville loves them some Hardy Boyz. We now have the Revival and The Hardy Boyz in a match on Raw and I must say this raw has been LOADED! It’s amazing how the nostalgia hasn’t yet worn off the Hardys yet, every week they have one of the biggest pops of the night. This is a secondary tag team feud I can get into the young hungry technicians vs. the high-flying veteran baby faces. I’ve been watching some old Summerslams for a series I’ll be releasing soon and the Revival remind me so much of golden age era tag teams. The Revival steal a win from the Hardys with Dash knocking Jeff off the top rope and Dawson pulling the tights for the win. I wonder if the club is happy with the outcome.

9) It’s now time for the main event and Roman Reigns vs. Samoa Joe are about to battle to determine the number one contender for the Universal Title at Summerslam. Lookout WWE universe Samoa Joe is starting to get that aura about him. When his music hits you know shit is about to go down. The one thing you can guarantee with every Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns match is that the intensity will be there for the entire match. Samoa Joe dominating the match for the first what I believe to be half the match. We get a spot on the outside of the ring with two hellacious clotheslines. Joe and Roman work really well together and have great in ring chemistry, I would love to see these two in a long term feud. WE GET THE RETURN OF BRAUN STROWMAN! We get an all out melee with Strowman, Reigns and Samoa Joe which is something we all love. We get an AMAZING SPOT with Samoa Joe locking in Strowman in the Coquina clutch and Reigns hitting them with a superman punch. Strowman then drops both of them with the big powerslam and stands tall to end Raw.

Monday Night Raw continues to deliver each and every week. They are even now starting to promote the next week’s matches on this week’s Raw. We have a number one contenders match already announced for next week between Sasha Banks and Bayley as well as a handicap match with Rollins/Ambrose vs. The Miztourage and a no disqualification match with Sampson and Balor. We also now have Balor and Wyatt as well as where does Jason Jordan fit in on Raw? This feels like old school Raw all over again and I love it.
