Rey Mysterio was last seen in a WWE ring back in 2015. Since his WWE departure, he has been working for a wide variety of promotions, including Lucha Underground and AAA. Before that, Rey had a very successful career in WWE that lasted for 13 years and saw him become World Champion.
If this new report is accurate, WWE fans might get to see him return.
According to a report from Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Rey is currently negotiating with both WWE and Global Force Wrestling at the moment.
The report says that Rey’s deal with Lucha Underground is set to expire after the show airs in September. After his 90-day no-compete clause runs out, he will be free to sign anywhere he wants.
So what does this mean? For WWE fans it means they could be seeing Rey in late 2017/ early 2018 if WWE and Rey are able to work out a deal. This is far from a done deal but something to keep our eyes on over the next few months. The article mentions WWE having an edge on other promotions because of the WWE Performance Center and Rey’s son Dominic training to become a wrestler.
Some fans have suggested that Rey would be a perfect fit for the Cruiserweight Division. It is unclear if WWE would go this route because of his star power and history with the company.
We will let you know if we hear anything more.
