It was announced this week on Smackdown Live that John Cena will be facing Rusev at the Battleground Pay-Per-View. Smackdown Live General Manager: Daniel Bryan made it official that these two will be facing off in a ‘flag match’ at the event.
Here are some of the latest rumors circulating about John Cena and his plans for the next couple of weeks.
There are some rumors floating around that the match at Battleground will be used as a stepping stone for Cena, before he wrestles an even bigger match at Summerslam. As a result of this, Cena will more than likely be picking up the win against Rusev.
It is unclear who Cena will face after Rusev, but he did call out several names during his promo. This included: AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kevin Owens, Brock Lesnar, Jinder Mahal, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns.
Take rumors with a grain of salt as always but this would make sense. Would WWE really have John Cena (and the United States) lose a flag match? It seems unlikely. Pair that with WWE probably wanting Cena to have a big-time match at Summerslam and there is almost no chance he loses at Battleground.

We will have to wait and see what happens. Our guess is that Cena defeats Rusev and moves on to challenge Jinder Mahal for the WWE Title.
