WWE fans last saw the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 33. The Deadman was defeated by Roman Reigns at the event. After the match, he left his gear inside of the ring, which looked like it was a symbolic way for him to let fans know that he was retiring.
WWE has not officially closed the book on the career of the Undertaker but it has been strong insinuated that Wrestlemania 33 was his final match.
So is he retired?
Many fans noticed some interesting phrasing that Michael Cole used this past week on Monday Night RAW when addressing the Undertaker.
Cole when speaking about Reigns said:
“The man who defeated The Undertaker and perhaps sent him into retirement at Wrestlemania”
This has many fans speculating that WWE is keeping the door open for the Undertaker to return. As mentioned prior, the Undertaker reportedly went through hip surgery in the past few months. It was originally thought that this would mark the end of his career but maybe it could lead to one final match? It will obviously depend on how the Undertaker is able to recover from his surgery and if he still wants to wrestle. From Cole’s words, it sounds like WWE refuses to state that the Undertaker has officially retired.
This is to be taken with a grain of salt as we won’t know more until likely a few months from now. Certainly an interesting choice of words from Cole.
