Randy Orton will be defending his WWE Championship against Bray Wyatt at the upcoming Payback pay-per-view event. This will be a rematch from their clash at Wrestlemania 33 where Orton won the title. This time, it will be a ‘House of Horrors’ match, whatever that turns out to be.
You might be asking yourself, why the heck is Smackdown Live’s top Championship being defended at a RAW exclusive pay-per-view event?
There are a few rumors floating around about the match and why it is happening at Payback.
The first rumor is that it was a last-minute decision to put Bray Wyatt on RAW. As a result, WWE needs to quickly finish the feud between Orton and Wyatt, which allows both of them to move on to different things. This one is the most obvious reason.
Another rumor is that the match was fast-tracked for Payback in order to make up for a big absence on the card. In case you haven’t noticed yet, the WWE Universal Championship will NOT be defended by Brock Lesnar at the event. WWE is rumored to have made the match between Wyatt and Orton at Payback to make up for the Universal Title’s absence.
WWE is killing two birds with one stone here. They not only get the feud between Orton and Wyatt over with but they can also say that a World Title is being defended at the event.
