Backstage News On The Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar Finish at Survivor Series, Why It Was So Short

The wrestling world was shocked on Sunday night after watching Survivor Series. The 49-year-old Goldberg defeated Brock Lesnar in under 2 minutes in the main event. Brock wasn’t even able to get a shot in. This is was shocking because of how strongly booked Lesnar has been over the past 3 years. His resume includes: breaking the Undertaker’s legendary undefeated streak at Wrestlemania and destroying John Cena.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Radio (subscription required but recommended), the finish of the match was originally supposed to be Lesnar winning but it was changed this week. As we mentioned prior, Goldberg has made a deal with WWE to appear at more dates for the company, including the Royal Rumble.

Here is an interesting part of this all, apparently Brock Lesnar played a big role in how that match played out. Lesnar reportedly pushed for Goldberg to get more WWE dates because he sees money in a longer term feud between him and Goldberg. WWE brass obviously agree considering how the match played out.

The match ending so quickly had nothing to do with Goldberg being injured or anything like that. The idea was to create a shocking moment, that got Goldberg over with the crowd.

That certainly got people talking, good or bad. Based on this information, we will likely see an interaction between these two at the Royal Rumble this year. This will ultimately set up a big match at Wrestlemania 33.
