Survivor Series is one of the biggest events of the year for WWE. As a result, we have put together a list of some of the best Survivor Series moments in the history of the event.
Amazing Survivor Series Moments
9) The Rock Debuts!
The most electrifying man in sports entertainment started his WWE career at Survivor Series. He wasn’t known as the Rock at this time, he began as Rocky Maivia. This was a combination of his father’s ring name (Rocky Johnson) and his Grandfather’s ring name (‘High Chief’ Peter Maivia). It kicks off our list of amazing Survivor Series moments.
Rocky Maivia had his first match at the 1996 Survivor Series. He teamed with Marc Mero, Jake Roberts and The Stalker (Barry Windham) in a 4 on 4 Survivor Series elimination match. The team took on Crush, Triple H, Goldust, and Jerry Lawler. Rocky was the sole survivor of the match, making a big impression on the WWE audience in his first official match.
You can watch the highlights of his debut here:
Fans weren’t happy with the clean-cut babyface and began to chant “Die Rocky Die” at him during his matches for the next several months. He eventually turned heel and started calling himself: ‘The Rock’….The rest is history. Pretty cool that his journey began at Survivor Series.
8) ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin Gets Hit By A Car
At Survivor Series 1999, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin was scheduled to be in the main event for the WWF Championship against the Rock and Triple H. Things didn’t go exactly as planned for the Texas Rattlesnake.
Triple H confronted Austin backstage, which resulted in ‘Stone Cold’ chasing him around the arena. While in the parking garage, Austin was hit by a random car that sped towards him.
You can watch the moment here:
Austin was taken away in an ambulance and forced out of the WWF Championship match against The Rock and Triple H. He was replaced by the Big Show. Triple H ended up winning the match and the WWF title.
It was revealed later that Rikishi was the one who ran over Austin, under the orders of Triple H. This angle was written for Austin to get surgery on his injured neck. He wouldn’t return Backlash in April of 2000.
