Sami Zayn took on Seth Rollins on RAW this week. The winner received an entry into the fatal 4-way match next week to determine the new WWE Universal Champion. Sami seemed to roll his ankle pretty bad but was able to finish the match. Seth went on to win and earn his shot next week. Was Sami hurt or just a great actor?
There was much speculation on if Sami’s ankle injury was real or a ‘work’. From the slow-motion replay, it looked like it was legit. Sami looked like he was in a lot of pain but was able to finish off the match.
It turns out that this injury was likely part of the storyline. If you didn’t notice, Seth continued to attack the ankle during the match, which wouldn’t happen if he was really hurt.
Dave Meltzer also confirmed that it was a ‘work’ on twitter when a fan asked him:

Amazing story to this match. Made Sami look great even in a loss as he never gave up and showed incredible heart. Sami also deserves an Oscar for that one because I was very concerned during the match.
