Kevin Owens Comments On The WWE Draft Being A “Slap In The Face”

The WWE Draft like any other draft in professional sports is an easy indicator of how valuable someone is. Individuals that go in the first couple picks are usually the biggest stars or have the most potential. As you slip further down the list, so does the value of your selection. That is why AJ Styles was taken in the first round of the WWE Draft and someone like Curtis Axel was taken near the end. Specifically in the WWE’s case, it is an easy way to tell how the WWE brass ranks you on the card.

In the 2016 WWE Draft, Kevin Owens was selected 18th Overall to RAW and as the 11th selection for RAW. Not a horrible spot but many expected him to be a bit higher. Owens is one of the best wrestlers in the company (in my own opinion) and has a shot to be a top heel for a number of years. In a recent interview with JOE.co.uk, Owens talks about his draft selection being a slap in the face.

Here is what he said:

“I was picked way later than I should have been. I mean, I understand not being picked before Roman Reigns or John Cena or Ambrose or Seth Rollins, those guys have been the figureheads of WWE for several years now. I even understand being picked above Charlotte, who was the Women’s Champion at the time, and who was the face of the Women’s division. Even Finn Balor, who was coming up from NXT – he’s a big deal. But being picked as late as I was was kind of a slap in the face, to be honest. But I’ll use it as motivation as to why I should be the face of RAW” (Source: JOE.co.uk).
