As noted last week, Brock Lesnar was notified of a potential anti-doping violation after his fight at UFC 200 against Mark Hunt. This news rocked the Mixed Martial Arts and wrestling worlds after what was an amazing performance in his fight. John Cena was recently a guest on ESPN’s Off The Top Rope segment for Sportscenter. During his appearance he spoke on a wide variety of topics including hosting the ESPYS, the WWE Draft and Brock Lesnar’s USADA violation.
Here is what Cena said specifically regarding Brock Lesnar’s USADA test failure:
“Well, there was certainly a lot of hype. I was actually on SportsCenter hyping that fight myself. My thoughts were in Brock Lesnar’s corner, as he was put as the underdog in that fight, and he ended up doing well. Anytime something like that comes out, it certainly affects your perception of the event. There’s no way that people aren’t going to perceive Brock Lesnar differently, and when something like this happens, you set yourself a long, hard road ahead of you, and Brock’s got a long, hard road ahead of him” (Source: ESPN).
Cena essentially saying that Lesnar has a long road ahead of him if he ever wants to improve his public image after this. It really brings in some interesting questions regarding the WWE and their wellness policy. If they choose not to suspend him, doesn’t is make their wellness policy look bad? I get that pro-wrestling and the UFC are different but the WWE has claimed the wellness policy is legit.
