Cody Rhodes Opens Up About The Stardust Character & How It Was Suppose To End

As many wrestling fans know, Cody Rhodes has left the WWE in order to pursue a career on the independent wrestling scene around the globe. Word is that the WWE wanted him to remain as his Stardust gimmick while he wanted to return as Cody Rhodes. In a recent interview on the Ric Flair Show hosted by MLW Radio Network, he opened up about the Stardust character. Cody gives us an insight into a second Stardust-Amell match that was planned and how the character was suppose to end.

Cody gave a brief history of the Stardust character, trying to model it as a supervillain in the beginning:

“Goldust is Dustin’s character. To be like a lite version of him was probably a career nightmare and just terrible idea perhaps. The idea was when we got it was okay you don’t have to be androgynous, it doesn’t have to be Goldust. You can be a supervillain. Okay I’ll be like Jim Carrey in the Riddler and I’ll find myself a superhero. I had the match with Stephen Amell who is on TV as a DC, he’s the damn Green Arrow as an actual superhero, so I was like this is perfect” (Source: The Ric Flair Show).

He says plans were in place for the Stardust character to end in a second match against Stephen Amell:

“and then there was suppose to be another match and we had practices scheduled and we were gonna be at Hell in a Cell. And that was suppose to be the end of Stardust. It was suppose to be if Stardust loses to the Green Arrow, he will return as Cody Rhodes. When that didn’t happen, that was one of the first kick in the balls for me” (Source: The Ric Flair Show).

Talks about the WWE wanting him to stay as Stardust as being one of the main reasons why he decided to leave the WWE:

“I thought well there is no end in sight and I don’t want a fan you know somebody says oh that’s Cody Rhodes and they say who? Because they know me as Stardust, that would just break my heart. It was part of my decision to peace out there at the end”  (Source: The Ric Flair Show).
