Chris Jericho and Dean Ambrose squared off in the first ever ‘Asylum Match’ a couple weeks back at WWE Extreme Rules. Many fans were not thrilled with the match as it went long and the crowd didn’t really seem that into it. Y2J on his podcast: Talk Is Jericho, said that he thought the match was ‘great’ and they built a dead crowd up after the amazing fatal four-way between Cesaro, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and The Miz.
Here is what he said:
“We had kind of a dead crowd though because we had that amazing four-way match right in front of us, but you still got to work the match and we built it. We built it well, [it was] a great match in a different way from the four-way. The fans were going bonkers at the end and that’s what it’s all about. Sometimes, you’ve got a quiet crowd and you build it. It’s like ‘Stairway To Heaven’. It starts out slow and quiet and it ends up with a crashing guitar crescendo and that’s what you want, so a great weekend” (Source: Talk is Jericho. H/T WrestlingInc).
I actually enjoyed the match for what it was, I did think it went a bit long though. It felt like a segment got cut so they had to add an extra five minutes to the match. The thumbtacks spot was unexpected and something we haven’t seen in over a decade which was pretty great. Other than that it wasn’t too memorable.

He’s right, putting that match on after the IC match was a bad idea. The biggest problem with doing these matches is that WWE’s trying to do hardcore while being PG, which doesn’t work. If they had let them go and not worried about PG, that match would’ve been even better.
Yeah I also think the match went maybe a bit too long!
