Paige Comments On Being Sad About The Term ‘DIVA’ Being Retired

Paige and WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte were on This Morning with Phillip & Holly in order to promote the live events going on in the UK. They spoke on a wide variety of topics during the interview about the current WWE product (you can see highlights in the video above). One of the most interesting parts was Paige saying that she was sad about the WWE getting rid of the term ‘Diva’. So far since the WWE removed the Divas Championship, we have only heard positives about the change. Paige is the first person I can recall who is defending the term.

Here is what she said in the video:

“I was a little bit sad about it, just because you know, when you grow up and you want to be a wrestler, you think of Diva, you think of WWE and that is exactly where I wanted to be. I was very sad but I am glad I am part of the evolution” (Source: Youtube).

I think Paige does have a bit of a point, when you think of the term Diva you do think of the WWE. The problem is because the Divas were portrayed poorly for so long, the term became a bit of a joke. I am happy that the WWE made the switch and we have a fresh era for Women’s wrestling. Even though Paige is right and you think of the WWE when you hear Diva, it was always not in the best light. The retiring of the term was a much needed change in my opinion.

Let us know your thoughts on her comments! Do you agree with me that the term change was necessary? Or do you agree with Paige? Leave us a comment below and we will get back to you!

  1. When i hear the term “diva” i think of stuck up rich actresses or singers who think they’re better than us regular people. Not female wrestlers.

  2. cheese and rice this is hard to watch. I get not everyone watches WWE, but at least take 5 mins and search on the internet the guests on your show and what is currently going in the company. no need to know the entire history… but at least be able to carry on a conversation.
