3) Sting Was Responsible For His Wrestling Career
While Goldberg was playing for the Atlanta Falcons, he used to be a member of a gym that was owned by Sting and Lex Luger. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Goldberg credits Sting with changing his mind about the wrestling business.
After some conversations with Sting, Goldberg ended up trying his hand at wrestling after his football career was on the decline. He went to the WCW Power Plant and the rest is history.
Here is what he said:
“Sting was the guy who changed my mind. He and Lex Luger used to own a gym called Main Event Fitness in Atlanta. When I was with the Falcons, I used to work out there. I would have never imagined in a trillion years that I would have followed this path, but what made the decision realistic for me was the way Sting carried himself. When I met Sting, and observed him leading his family, business, and social life, it was completely different from what I’d ever seen in the past. I thought, ‘You know what, I can do this.’ So I bought thousands of dollars of old tapes trying to perfect moves that nobody had ever done before. I saw something that I liked, then I’d change it and make it my own” (Source: Sports Illustrated).
Sting and Goldberg went on to face each other numerous times in WCW.
4) He Is A Spokesman For The ASPCA
While Goldberg gives off the image that he is a badass, he also has an extreme soft side. You might not know that Goldberg is a spokesman for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
For example:
“Between his TV and film gigs, he focuses his energies on his family and his charity work. He’s a spokesman for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, having spoken to congress to raise awareness of illegal animal fighting saying, “When I step into the ring it’s my choice. But these animals, they have no choice. That’s just sick.” (Source: LikeTheDew).
