With the news that Roman Reigns has pulled out of Wrestlemania 36, here are some ways that WWE can book him being replaced in the storyline.
5) Another Mystery Storyline
Several months ago, WWE was doing a storyline where we didn’t know who attacked Roman Reigns in the backstage area. This was a storyline that WWE explored for a while with Reigns, Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan.
WWE could book something similar here. Have Roman Reigns get attacked by an unknown assailant in the backstage area. After this, WWE is forced to replace Roman from Wrestlemania due to injury. This way, WWE can explore the storyline of who attacked Roman for the next several weeks on Smackdown. This would also lead to a match between Reigns and his attacker at a future PPV.
In this scenario, WWE would simply choose a new opponent for Goldberg at Wrestlemania 36 because Roman is unable to compete. We won’t know who the attacker was and Goldberg will just accept whoever is offered to him as a replacement.
Since WWE just did a mystery storyline for Reigns, it takes the last spot on my list. Still, it remains an option for WWE.
4) Goldberg Turns Heel
Another idea that I had was WWE turning Goldberg heel during this storyline. Goldberg could viciously attack Roman Reigns on Smackdown, leaving him unable to compete at Wrestlemania 36.
This would be an interesting direction to take if WWE wants to keep the Universal Championship on Goldberg. This way, it would save Goldberg vs Roman Reigns for another PPV, where WWE can properly do the match between them.
Reigns vs Goldberg is still a match that fans would like to see at some point. Turning Goldberg heel could set it up for down the road.
In this scenario, Reigns would be replaced at Wrestlemania 36 by a babyface who wants to get revenge for what Goldberg did.
