Step #3: Keith Lee Loses Clean To Randy Orton
Keith Lee will be facing off against Randy Orton at the Payback PPV. This will be a rematch from RAW, which ended in a no contest. I think that it would now be a mistake for Lee to lose this match clean.
This is a match where neither guy should really lose. Orton has some serious momentum and is killing it right now. Lee is also brand new on the main roster and it would be a bad look for him to lose his first match on PPV.
I would have Drew McIntyre return during the match and distract Orton. This would lead to Lee picking up the victory. This would continue the feud between Drew and Orton. It would also give Lee a massive victory that will show main roster fans he can compete with the best in the company.
Lee losing just seems like the worst option right now. There are ways to book around it to protect both guys.
Step #2: Anything But The Universal Title Match Is The Main Event
Roman Reigns made his triumphant return at Summerslam and attacked The Fiend and Braun Strowman after their match. This was a nice surprise and something that ended the PPV on a really high note. Roman will now be involved in a triple threat match at Payback against The Fiend and Braun. I think that it would be a mistake if any other match ends up as the main event.
The Universal Title match should definitely be the final bout of the night. Roman has a lot of momentum after his return and fans will heavily anticipate his return to the ring. This is the biggest match on the card and it should go on last.
I think it would be a mistake if it doesn’t end up as the main event of the show.
