WWE Jobs – What Superstars Did Before Wrestling
1) Sheamus
Job Before Becoming A Wrestler: Body Guard For Bono
Before throwing on a pair of wrestling tights, Sheamus had some interesting jobs. He first worked as an IT technician. He also worked as a bodyguard for an Irish nightclub where many celebrities would visit. One of these celebrities was Bono of the band: U2.
Here is a quote from an interview with Independent.ie:
“I’d be standing there, making sure nobody spiked his drink, or try to steal his pint. It was a handy way to make a bit of wedge.”
Not a bad gig.
2) AJ Styles
Job Before Becoming A Wrestler: Delivering Water
The Phenomenal One, AJ Styles is one of the best professional wrestlers in the world. Styles revealed that his very first job at the age of 7 was picking up garbage at a raceway.
Styles also used to deliver water for a living. He actually paid for his wrestling training by giving water to the trainers instead of money (since he didn’t have any).
3) Michael Cole
Job Before WWE: Journalist
Michael Cole was a big-time journalist/reporter (for CBS) prior to joining the WWE in 1997. He covered several U.S election campaigns, including Bill Clinton in 1992.
From his WWE.com bio:
“Cole was a standout in the field of broadcast journalism, working for CBS Radio and building an impressive résumé”
Cole left the field to join WWE where he has been the voice of the company for more than two decades.
4) Trish Stratus
Job Before Becoming A Wrestler: Receptionist at a Gym
Trish Stratus was one of the most popular female wrestlers to ever compete for WWE. Prior to entering the wrestling business, she studied biology and kinesiology at York University (in Toronto).
When her school went on strike in 1997, she looked for another job. She ended up working as a receptionist at a local gym. Trish was approached while she was working to do a photoshoot for a muscle magazine. She was eventually discovered by WWE and the rest is history.
5) Kofi Kingston
Job Before Becoming A Wrestler: Staples Advertising
Kofi has been a staple of WWE TV since 2007. He actually also used to work for the company: Staples before he began his career as a professional wrestler.
From the 2012 book – Kofi Kingston: Champ of Smackdown, he apparently took a job in the Staples advertising department after college. He worked around a year in the cubicle life before realizing that he wanted more.
He would quit his job and train to become a wrestler.
