3) The Fabulous Freebirds:
The Fabulous Freebirds consisted of Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy, Buddy Roberts and Jimmy Garvin. They were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016. Bret was unhappy that this group went in before some other big names.
In an interview with Forbes, he was asked about guys like Rick Rude, Demolition and his brother Owen Hart being left out of the WWE Hall of Fame. He had some harsh words for the Fabulous Freebirds in the process.
Here is what he said:
“Why have they been overlooked when you can induct the Freebirds, who never did squat in WWE? Ever. Never drew any money, never did anything. When I remember the Freebirds, they were all drunk and passed out at the gate at one of the airports in my first day in WWF. None of them even made the show that day, they were too drunk to make their plane” (Source: Forbes).
He continued:
“I’ve always gotten along with [Michael Hayes], but as far as their contribution to wrestling, gimme a break. They were all pill heads and, for lack of a better word, they were all screw-ups. They’re not picking the cream of the crop, they’re picking whoever the first person they see on the list and they go ‘he would be easy to fly in. If you’re going to have a Hall of Fame, you’ve got to have Owen Hart in the Hall of Fame” (Source: Forbes).
Michael Hayes responded to this days after (which you can read here). As you can imagine he was not happy with the comments from Bret. Bret also apologized for these comments to Hayes.
4) Vader
Bret Hart wrestled Vader a lot during his brief stint in the WWE. On an episode of his podcast: The Sharpshooter Show, Bret talked about wrestling Vader. In the process, he explained why it was never fun to wrestle the big guy, burying him in the process.
Here is what he said about Vader:
“It was like wrestling with a cement truck filled with barf. (Laughs) He was stiff and really the sh*ts to work with as far as, he was no fun. He hurt you constantly. Every punch or kick. I can remember he did a belly flop on me one time. He told me he could do it safe and not hurt me or whatever. My body felt violated. Four hundred pounds of blob just slapped my whole body” (Source: Wrestlezone).
He called him the smelliest and stiffest guy that he ever had to wrestle:
“I was numb after the match. I remember feeling violated. He was really stiff, He stunk, He smelled like throw up. He never washed his gear. I guess he washed it every once in awhile. After a couple of weeks on the road with Vader it was just tough working with him. He was maybe one of the stiffest and smelliest guys I ever had to wrestle” (Source: Wrestlezone).
Tough one Vader.
