WWE Storylines That Almost Happened

6) The Eddie Guerrero vs Shawn Michaels Match That We Almost Got At Wrestlemania

This one might be the saddest on the entire list. There are rumors that prior to Eddie Guerrero’s passing, there were plans being discussed for a huge feud between him and Shawn Michaels.

On the the Court Bauer & John Pollock Show’,  former WWE writer: Court Bauer had this to say about the early plans for Wrestlemania 22:

I believe it was Bruce Prichard who pitched putting Eddie Guerrero at WrestleMania against Shawn Michaels and doing the parallels of their careers. Being the heartthrob in Mexico and this mercurial figure south of the border, and the American version being HBK. They had never really worked, and you would’ve had such a great dynamic between the two with heel Eddie versus Shawn. That’d be your ‘tear the house down,’ high quality match at WrestleMania 22 in Chicago. Vince was like, ‘God damn, that’s really appealing. We could parallel their careers. What kind of footage of Eddie do we have outside of WCW? We could really do some impressive packages.'”

That would have been incredible. Shawn Michaels vs Eddie Guerrero at Wrestlemania 22 certainly had the chance to be a five-star match. Two of the greatest in WWE history.

We missed out on something awesome, especially if they went with the angle with them having parallel careers.

5) Triple H Winning The 1996 King Of The Ring Tournament

One of the biggest ‘what ifs’ when looking into WWE has to be the 1996 King of the Ring Tournament that was won by Steve Austin.

The story goes that Triple H was actually the one that was supposed to win the tournament in ’96. After the infamous ‘Curtain Call’ incident at Madison Square Garden where the Kliq broke kayfabe, Triple H was the only one who could be punished. Scott Hall and Kevin Nash were on their way to WCW and Shawn Michaels was the WWF Champion. As a result, WWE punished Triple H for the incident, which included not having him win the King of the Ring tournament that year.

As we all know now, Steve Austin won the tournament and ‘Stone Cold’ was born with his infamous “Austin 3:16” promo. Austin would go on to become one of the biggest stars in the history of the wrestling business and was one of the main reasons why WWE defeated WCW in the Monday Night Wars.

Crazy to think back if Triple H won the King of the Ring that year and Steve Austin had not broken out like he did. WWE might not even be in business right now…..
